F.A.Q. Do you have any part-time or distance learning options in the programme?
No. Currently we are not enrolling students on a part-time basis and the educational arrangements require immediate contact, participation and interaction.
The language of my previous education was English. Do I need to take an English language test?
Applicants need to take the TOEFL, IELTS or CPE/CAE test.
Do you accept the language certificate after the application deadline?
The language test must be taken before the application deadline and the report must reach TUT by the end of April to ensure proper process of the application in due time.
Is GRE-test compulsory?
The GRE-test is not compulsory. If you take it and the test result is very good, it can support your application.
Do I have to know or learn Finnish?
No. The official language of the programme is English and therefore studies, exams and student services are offered in English. Pre-knowledge or studies of Finnish are not required, but at least basic courses are strongly recommended because basic knowledge of Finnish makes everyday life easier.
Can I apply now if I’ll get my B.Sc. degree next summer?
You can apply now if you are going to graduate by the end of next July, when the B.Sc. degree must be fully completed. The original degree certificate must be presented when you enrol and start you studies at TUT. Please also specify in the application, which courses are still uncompleted and missing from the transcript of records for your final year or semester.
If my application is rejected this year, is it possible to consider it next year?
If you wish to participate in next year's programme, you have to re-apply. Please remember that most applications are rejected due to lack of qualification only. Thus, if you have not acquired additional academic qualification in the meantime, most likely your application will be rejected again.
I am interested in applying to more than one Master’s degree programme at TUT. Can I apply to them all with one application?
No. You have to submit a new application (including enclosures) for each programme during the application period. Please remember to indicate your order of preference of the programmes you are applying to. An applicant can be accepted to only one programme.
When will I hear about my application status?
We will notify you by email when the application has reached the university. A list of accepted students will be available in the web at the end of April (if the student has allowed the publication of his/her name). Official letters of acceptance will be posted at the beginning of May.
I missed the application deadline. Can I still apply?
No. The admission process includes many scheduled stages. Besides, the application material will not be available in the web after the deadline.
Is it possible to defer my admission to next year? / May I enrol for the programme in the spring semester?
It is an exceptional arrangement and each case will be individually reviewed after receiving a request to defer the admission for one year or semester. Deferrals are usually granted, if the student provides sufficient cause.
How should I have my documents certified?
The application documents shall be certified by a notary public or the University Registrar. It is important that the documents are duly stamped and that the person certifying your documents declares his/her position along with contact information.
Does TUT provide computers for student use?
Yes, there are numerous computers on campus available for students and a wireless network covers the campus area.
Does the programme have a tuition fee?
No there is not, but the students need to pay the Student Union membership fee, which is about 90 euros per academic year.
Do you have any scholarships for Master's Degree students?
Unfortunately, TUT cannot offer any scholarships to international students. The students are supposed to have enough funds to cover living costs, accommodation and other costs related to studying at TUT.
Can I work (as a student research assistant) to finance my studies?
In general, research assistantships are possible for TUT students. However, we cannot guarantee or even help you obtain a position as a student assistant. The working hours of students are limited both by law and by the demands of the programme (you will need time to prepare for lectures, homework, etc.). Thus, financing your studies by student assistantship alone may not be possible.
